Press release 72/2014
27 March 2014

Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto will visit Stockholm on Friday 28 March. On his visit, Haavisto will participate in the Stockholm Forum on Development and Security, where the theme of the year is ‘Freedom from Violence'. In the event, Haavisto will give a speech on the role of donors in fragile countries. The Forum is closely associated with the theme of ensuring stable and peaceful societies, which Finland is advocating to be included as one the goals for the post-2015 UN development agenda.

In connection with the Forum, Minister Haavisto will meet Timor-Leste's Minister of Finance Emilia Pires, who co-chairs the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) with Haavisto. The IDPS is an international group, promoting the development of fragile states, that brings together the fragile states, donors, and civil society representatives.

Haavisto’s programme will also include meetings with Special Representative of the United Nation’s Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zainab Bangura, Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation Hillevi Engström and Minister for Financial Markets Peter Norman.
