Jukka Matilainen appointed as Press Counsellor to Moscow

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has appointed Jukka Matilainen to the post of Press Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in Moscow. The three-year term will start at the beginning of August.

Matilainen will move to Moscow from the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department, where he has been Head of Communications. He has previously worked as Deputy Head of Communications at the Ministry of the Interior, among other posts.

The Press Counsellor is responsible for the embassy’s external communications and media relations. In addition, the Press Counsellor promotes Finland’s objectives through communications and public diplomacy in Moscow and Russia and takes part in the planning and implementation of communications related to projects of the Team Finland network in Russia.

Jukka Matilainen studied organisational communication and public relations, journalism, and Russian language and culture at the University of Jyväskylä and communications and Russian language and culture at the Yaroslavl State University. For more than 12 years, Matilainen has held various communications supervisor and specialist positions. Owing to his knowledge of the Russian language and culture, he has also worked to promote the relations between the Finnish and Russian Police in the National Police Board and the Helsinki Police Department.
