Restrictions on external border traffic extended until 30 June

In line with the Government decision of 2 June, the restrictions on entry at Finland’s external borders will continue until 30 June 2022.

People arriving from outside the EU and the Schengen area are required to present a valid certificate of a full course of vaccination or proof of recovery from COVID-19 within the past six months as a prerequisite for entry, apart from a few exceptions. This requirement applies to those born in 2006 or earlier.

The Border Guard will not require the above-mentioned certificates as a prerequisite for entry from the following groups of persons arriving in Finland from third countries: Finnish citizens, foreign nationals residing permanently in Finland, or persons who have an essential reason for entry, such as compelling family matters or another compelling personal reason.

Visit the website of the  Finnish Border Guard(Link to another website.) (Opens New Window) for more information about the restrictions on entry and the website of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare(Link to another website.) (Opens New Window) on health security measures.

However, all passengers must present the required certificates as laid down in the Communicable Diseases Act and comply with the decisions made by the Regional State Administrative Agencies on compulsory health examinations.

Travellers should note that many countries and transport companies are not permitting entry into the country of destination unless passengers present proof of a negative COVID-19 test, proof of recovery from COVID-19 or proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Travellers must be active and contact the authorities of the country of destination, shipping company or airline concerned to find out which certificates are required.
