Agenda 2030

Finland is committed to build back better and greener in the Covid-19 recovery. Finland’s goal is to become a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable society by 2030.

The UN's annual High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) convenes virtually on 7–16 July. Prime Minister Sanna Marin will give a speech at the opening session of the meeting on 14 July. The meeting will review the global progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin before the opening session:

"Finland’s goal is to become a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable society by 2030. The recovery from the Covid-19 crises must take us to a more sustainable path.

Finland is said to be among the most sustainable economies and happiest nations in the world. We do well because our society is highly equal.

Our society's asset  is the Nordic welfare model. Accessible education and health care also create trust in society, on which to build sustainable policies.

Globally, we need to work harder together to reach the sustainable development goals by 2030.

In Finland, we have set a target: to be climate neutral by 2035. A circular economy must replace the “make, use, dispose” model - in Finland like elsewhere.

It is also a matter of equality. Finland works for gender equality and the rights of women and girls around the world. We need everyone onboard to reach the sustainable development goals.

We need a strong and efficient multilateral system to push them forward.

We can transform our world, and we need to do it together."
