Finland tar hem 50 soldater från Afghanistan nästa år
Republikens president och statsrådets utrikes- och säkerhetspolitiska ministerutskott behandlade vid sitt möte tisdagen den 29 november läget i Afghanistan och Finlands deltagande i den militära krishanteringen. Finland deltar med 195 soldater i Natos ISAF-insats i Afghanistan. Inkommande år inleder man en minskning av trupperna med att hemförlova 50 soldater. Det är fråga om en avveckling av förstärkningen som man fattade beslut om 2010.

Finland rapporterar till FN om rasism, diskriminering och intolerans
Finland har lämnat sin periodiska rapport till FN:s rasdiskrimineringskommitté om hur konventionen om avskaffande av alla former av rasdiskriminering uppfyllts. Rapporten är en kombinerad 20:e, 21:a och 22:a rapport och täcker perioden från augusti 2007 till denna höst. I rapporten redogörs för de legislativa, rättsliga och administrativa åtgärder som tagits för att minska diskrimination, intolerans och främlingsfientlighet.

Presidential Forum to look at the state of Europe and the world
President of the Republic Tarja Halonen is bringing together key opinion-makers to discuss the current state of Europe and the world. The participants of the Presidential Forum to be organised on Thursday, 24 November will include Minister of Finance Jutta Urpilainen, Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja, Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala and Vice-President of the European Commission Olli Rehn.

Finland Helps Improve the Financial Situation of the UN
Finland has been thanked by the UN for being one of the countries that have met all of their financial obligations to the Organization in full and on time. The UN Secretary-General’s Report of 18 October 2011 Improving the financial situation of the United Nations (1/66/521) states that the only way to ensure a more stable financial base for the work of the UN is for all Member States to meet their financial obligations.
