Foreign Minister Haavisto attends NB8 meeting in Tallinn

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will attend a meeting of Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers, to be held in the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation format in Tallinn on 8–9 September 2020.

The Foreign Ministers will discuss topical foreign and security policy questions, including transatlantic cooperation, UN matters, Russia, and China as well as such topical matters relating to Europe as the rule of law. The Ministers will also discuss, among other things, the situation in Belarus and Ukraine, climate change, and energy and digitalisation issues.

“We find that the cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries is natural and important. Finland has close cooperation with the countries of the NB8 format in a number of areas. It is important that the group engages in discussion on topical global and regional questions. I also wish to congratulate my colleagues for the 30th anniversary of the NB8”, says Minister Haavisto.

This year’s meeting will be chaired by Estonia, the current coordinating country of NB8 cooperation. Foreign Ministers’ NB8 meetings have been organised since the 1990s.
