By the decision of Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen, Finland has granted a total of 1.2 million euros in humanitarian assistance for flood victims in Pakistan. Some 500,000 people have been left homeless and 252,000 buildings have been destroyed by the floods.

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen has allocated EUR 3 million of development cooperation appropriations to a fund supporting reconstruction and stabilization in Pakistani areas bordering on Afghanistan. The fund is managed by the World Bank.

By the decision made today, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen has granted one million euros to the Finnish Red Cross for deploying a field hospital to Peshawar, Pakistan.

The EU General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) will meet on 8 December in Brussels. The main theme of the meeting will be the preparation of the December European Council. Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb and Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors will attend the Council meeting.
