Foreign Minister Tuomioja : Kaliningrad offers an opportunity

Kaliningrad can offer Russia new opportunities for European cooperation, Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said in Budapest on Wednesday. Tuomioja spoke at the meeting of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC). He was commenting on the speech by Jevgeny Gusarov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia on Kaliningrad.
Tuomioja defined Finland as a Baltic Sea country, which has consistently worked for making the European integration open for all. Finland is doing her part to promote cooperation, security and stability in the neighbourhood.
According to Tuomioja Kalingingrad should not be seen as a problem but rather as one of the opportunities for Russia to participate in European cooperation. Kaliningrad is situated in the middle of a stable and increasingly prospering region of the Baltic Sea.
