OECD's Development Co-operation Report urges governments to increase aid volume

Development Co-operation Report published by OECD 22 February urges governments to increase their aid volume from current 5% increase a year to 11% increase year 2008-2010 in order to reach the commitments. Governments have commitmed to increase aid to $130 billion and double aid to Africa by 2010.

The report shows that the biggest donors are Norway and Sweden (as a percentage of their GNI) and US (by volume). Besides the aid volume, the report also highligts the need for effective distribution and use of aid and stresses the importance of accountability, both on donor and recipient sides. The report also studies major trends in aid allocation and gives recommendations, how to ensure that even the poorest countries can profit from the multilateral trading system.
