Ambassador Pekka Puustinen is the New Permanent Representative of Finland to the OECD and Unesco

Ambassador Pekka Puustinen took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Finland to the OECD and Unesco on 1 September 2016. He presented his credentials to the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Ms. Irina Bokova and to the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Angel Gurría, on 12 September 2016.

Prior to his nomination, Puustinen served as Director General of the Department of the Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Over the course of his diplomatic carrier Puustinen has held different positions at the Department of Development Policy, including the Director of the Unit for Sector Policy, through which he has gained a good insight into OECD and Unesco work.

Mr. Puustinen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1991 and has held a number of positions within the Ministry, including Deputy Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia, Advisor to the Permanent Secretary and Head of Administration of the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels. He has also served at the Embassy of Finland in Bonn and Berlin, worked as a journalist in Latin America and for the UNDP in Central America.
