Requirements for transit via Sydney and Melbourne airports

Foreign nationals in New Zealand can now travel domestically to reach Christchurch or Auckland to board an international flight.

Driving, taxis or public transport, or domestic flights from Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch or Dunedin airports, to connect with a commercial or chartered international flight are permissible. International travellers transiting Australia must apply for an exemption(Link to another website.) to transit and if transit time is more than eight hours, for a transit visa(Link to another website.).  

Transit via Sydney airport

A person who is transiting New South Wales for more than eight hours should complete quarantine exemption form.(Link to another website.) If an exemption is required for more than one person (e.g. a family) one application must be completed for each person. Please ensure to provide as much information as possible to support the review of applications.

Transit via Melbourne Airport

Travellers seeking an exemption to mandatory quarantine must write to the Victorian Health Authority providing as much information as possible to support the review of applications.
