Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat will meet in Helsinki on 17 June.

The EU General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) will meet in Luxembourg on 15 and 16 June. The meeting will focus on preparations for the June European Council and the situation in the Middle East and the Western Balkans. Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb and Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors will represent Finland at the Council meeting.

The European Council will convene in Brussels on 18 and 19 June. Main topics of the meeting will include guarantees for Ireland on the Lisbon Treaty, current economic and financial situation, financial supervision and climate change.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb will visit Stockholm on Wednesday, 10 June. In the evening, Stubb will attend a dinner hosted by the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt, during which the guests will discuss, for instance, issues associated with the Swedish EU Presidency, beginning in July.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb will participate in the Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be organised on 8-9 June in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Accompanied by Sweden’s Minister for Trade Ewa Björling, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen will visit Tornio River valley on 9-10 June. During the visit, the ministers will visit the areas of Pajala, Kolari and Haparanda-Tornio.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski will visit Finland on Monday, 8 June. Sikorski will conduct the official discussions with Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb over a business lunch.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Paet will visit Finland on Friday 5 June at the invitation of Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb.

Following the decision by Paavo Väyrynen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Finland is to participate with a significant amount in the Neva waste water management project, i.e. in the closure project of direct discharges in St. Petersburg. This decision covering the financing of the project with EUR 1.9 million will make Finland’s total project financing mount up to EUR 3.5 million.

Mr. Mahboub Maalim, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Eastern Africa will visit Finland on 1-2 June as part of a tour of the Nordic Countries.
