Finland was elected as member of the Unesco World Heritage Committee at the election held in Paris on 19 November. The election was attended by the State Parties to the World Heritage Convention, a total of 190 countries. 12 members were elected to the committee.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Natalia Gherman will visit Finland on 13 November and meet Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja. The Foreign Ministers will discuss, for example, the bilateral relations between the countries, the relations between Moldova and the EU, the EU’s Eastern Partnership and regional issues.

Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto will participate in the ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held in New Delhi, India, on 11–12 November. ASEM (Asia–Europe Meeting) is a cooperation forum for Asia and Europe, with the objective of strengthening dialogue and mutual understanding between the two regions.

On Thursday 7 November, the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed issues relating to central government information security and cyber security in general. The Committee also addressed the information security violation against the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will make a Team Finland trip to Germany on 12–13 November. The places he will visit are Berlin and Munich. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen the image of Finland as a country with a high level of competence and an attractive target for investments, as well as to promote the business opportunities of Finnish companies in Germany, and Bavaria in particular.

The Ahtisaari Days are now held for the third time in early November. This year the main event takes place in Kuopio. Visits to schools will be made by President Martti Ahtisaari, Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja, as well as employees from the Foreign Ministry and Crisis Management Initiative (CMI).
