The Government to give Parliament its report on Finland’s participation in the ISAF mission to secure elections in Afghanistan

In its session on Thursday, 29 January, the Government decides to give the Finnish Parliament a report on Finland’s participation in the ISAF mission to secure the arrangement of elections in Afghanistan in 2009.

Finland is preparing to reinforce its participation in ISAF, the International Security Assistance Force, by sending a detachment of 100 soldiers to the northern command area of Afghanistan for a fixed period of about four months. Presidential and regional council elections will be held in Afghanistan simultaneously in 2009. According to the latest announcement of the Government of Afghanistan, the elections will take place on 20 August.
