The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is now on Facebook
Press release 116/2011
31 March 2011
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Facebook page provides an opportunity to discuss topical affairs with the Ministry. The purpose of the Facebook page is to make affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ administrative sector easier to approach for people.
In other areas of Foreign Service, Facebook and other tools of social media have been introduced earlier. Almost thirty foreign missions already have a Facebook page. For instance, in connection with the natural disaster in Japan in March, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs designated the Facebook page of the Finnish Embassy in Japan an important supplementary channel for crisis communication.
Other services present on Facebook include Global Finland, the web publication of development co-operation and global education; This is Finland, site distributing information about Finland; and Europe Information.
Social media presence of Foreign Service is steered by the plan 'Foreign Service and Social Media’, which complements the Ministry for Foreign Affairs communication plan published in 2009.
