Foreign Minister Tuomioja’s statement concerning the attack on the UK Embassy in Teheran

Press release 323/2011
29 November 2011

The information on the storming of the United Kingdom’s Embassy in Teheran is extremely worrying. All measures of this kind are absolutely and emphatically condemnable. Iran is responsible for protecting diplomatic sites and must take action immediately in this respect.

This attack by Iran focuses on one Member State of the European Union, and thereby on the entire Union. The Government of Iran must see to it without delay that the safety and diplomatic immunity of the UK Embassy are restored and, through its action, must demonstrate its wish to respect relations with the European Union.
