Foreign Minister Tuomioja to meet U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja will visit Washington D.C. on 16–17 February. During the visit, Tuomioja will meet Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. In the discussions with his counterpart, Tuomioja intends to bring up, among other things, the situation in North Africa, the Middle East, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, NATO Summit in Chicago, the global Arms Trade Treaty, cooperation on gender equality issues, and matters related to bilateral relations.
Together with Finland’s Ombudsman for Minorities Eva Biaudet, Minister Tuomioja will also take part in a panel discussion on Women, Peace and Security in Afghanistan. The event is organized by the Embassy of Finland and the United States Institute of Peace in cooperation with the State Department, the USAID and the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington D.C.
Minister Tuomioja will also participate in two discussion events to be held at the Georgetown University and at the Brookings Institution, focusing on the future of the EU’s foreign policy and on integrating Europe’s Muslims.
