14 November 2008

Foreign Minister Stubb will visit Dublin and London on 19-21 November.

In Dublin, on Wednesday 19 November, Stubb will meet Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin, and participate in a debate of the Committee on European Affairs of the Lower House of the Irish Parliament and a discussion about the future of the EU organised by University College Dublin.

In London, on Thursday and Friday 20-21 November, Stubb will meet David Miliband, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of United Kingdom, and key Conservative leaders. Stubb’s programme in London will also include participation in a Round Table discussion at the Centre for European Reform and a lecture at the London School of Economics (LSE).

The main themes of discussion in both capitals will be the current EU questions and the Finnish OSCE Chairmanship.

The EU questions to emerge during the discussions include the future of the Lisbon Treaty and the preparation of affairs for the European Council meeting to be held in December. As concerns OSCE affairs, the focus will be primarily on the preparation of the OSCE Ministerial Council to be held in Helsinki on 4-5 December, and the situation of Southern Caucasus. In their meetings, the foreign ministers will also handle other international policy questions of current interest, such as the situation in the Middle East and the development of the Trans-Atlantic relations.
