Press release 319/2008
8 September, 2008
Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb will participate in the foreign minister meeting of Nordic Countries and Baltic States - i.e. the so-called NB8 (Nordic-Baltic 8) group – to be held in Pärnu, Estonia, on 9-10 September.
The Pärnu meeting continues the closely scheduled series of meetings and get-togethers addressing the Georgian conflict and the EU-Russia relationship that started with the extraordinary EU Summit on Georgia.
Another issue on the meeting agenda is the situation of the Baltic Sea particularly in the light of the EU Baltic Sea Strategy, currently under preparation. Furthermore, the foreign ministers will discuss the EU Neighbourhood Policy (Ukraine and Moldova) and the situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
The foreign minister meeting of the NB8 is organised annually towards the end of the summer. The first meeting was held in 1993. A year ago, the foreign ministers of Nordic Countries and Baltic States convened in Turku.
