Foreign Minister Stubb to attend the trilateral Baltic Sea meeting in Tallinn

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will travel to Tallinn on Monday, 9 June to attend the joint trilateral Baltic Sea meeting between Finland, Sweden and Estonia. The meeting will be hosted by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. Minister for European Union Affairs Cecilia Malmström will represent Sweden.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss, in particular, the Baltic Sea Strategy under preparation by the EU. In December 2007 the European Council invited the European Commission to present an EU internal strategy for the Baltic Sea region, in order to develop cooperation among Member States in the region. The intention is to approve the strategy during Sweden’s EU Presidency in 2009.
