9 September, 2009
Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will attend the meeting of foreign ministers to discuss climate issues to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on Thursday, 10 September.
Hosted by Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller of Denmark, the meeting will also be attended by Foreign Secretary David Miliband of the UK, Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner of France and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt of Sweden, the EU Presidency.
Climate issues constitute a holistic challenge to the European Union. The foreign ministers will discuss how to achieve an ambitious climate convention at the Climate Change Conference that will take place in Copenhagen in December, and the impacts of climate change on foreign and security policy. Reaching a climate convention is extremely important, and the European Union should show international leadership in this issue.
Following the actual meeting, in the morning the ministers will take part in a discussion held at the University of Copenhagen together with students.
The Climate Change Conference will take place in Copenhagen on 7–18 December. The conference is expected to reach a new climate convention that would come into effect when the Kyoto Convention expires in the year 2012.
