Foreign Minister Tuomioja to Turkey

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja is visiting Turkey on 17–19 November 2014. The 90th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Agreement between Finland and Turkey occurs on 9 December this year. During his visit Tuomioja, together with President Martti Ahtisaari, takes part in, and will be a speaker at, the celebratory seminar organized in honour of the anniversary. The seminar focuses on the future of Europe and its neighbouring areas. The Turkish speakers at the seminar are former President Abdullah Gül, whose term ended this year, and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
In Ankara Tuomioja will also have talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu. The topics of the meetings are cooperation between Finland and Turkey, Turkey’s EU membership process and other current international issues, such as the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, especially in Syria.
