Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja to speak in Helsinki on the 20th anniversary of the EU referendum

It is 20 years ago this autumn that Finland held its referendum on the EU. To mark the 20th anniversary of Finland’s EU referendum, Europe Information, Ministry for Foreign Affairs organizes three seminars open to the public. The two previous seminars took place in Kuopio and Tampere.
The final seminar of the series is held in Helsinki on Thursday, 16 October, the date of the 20th anniversary of the referendum. How the hopes and fears relating to the consequences of EU membership have been realized will be discussed at the seminar. Other topics of discussion include how the outcome of the referendum is reflected at present in the Finnish dialogue on the EU and how the Finnish democracy has changed along with membership of the EU.
Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, Counsellor of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eikka Kosonen from the Prime Minister’s Office and Senior Planning Officer Niklas Wilhelmsson from the Ministry of Justice will speak at the seminar in Helsinki, which will be held at the Old Student House.
