27 September, 2007
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen is going on an export promotion visit to Turkey on 2-5 October. The minister will be accompanied by a business delegation of more than 15 people, including companies from the forest industry, information technology, environment and energy sector. The chair of the business delegation will be Mr Veli Sundbäck, responsible for corporate affairs and social responsibility at Nokia.
The visit aims to promote business contacts between the Finns and the Turks and to boost Finnish trade in Turkey. In the recent years, the Finnish export to Turkey has increased by 20 percent each year.
Turkey’s EU membership negotiations and its sound economic growth create a good basis for further tightening the economic ties between Finland and Turkey. The visit also aims at promoting investments between Finland and Turkey.
Minister Väyrynen will be hosted by State Minister responsible for foreign trade Kürsat Tüzmen. In addition, Väyrynen will meet Industry Minister Zafer Caglayan, Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu and Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim, among others. The ministers will discuss the possibility of trade and economic cooperation, as well as bilateral relations, climate issues and Turkey’s EU membership negotiations.
