Security and Defence 2008 in Lahti: Ministry for Foreign Affairs promotes international security

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland presents its services and activities related to international security and travel safety at the Security and Defence 2008 event in Lahti on 26-28 September. The Strategy for Securing the Functions Vital to Society, adopted by the Government in 2006, will be showcased to the public at large for the first time at Lahti Fair Centre.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Command, the Ministry of the Interior, the Crisis Management Centre Finland and the Peacekeepers' Association Finland have built a stand (no. h6 in the A Hall) to present Finland's civilian and military crisis management activities from decision-making and training to operations worldwide. NATO with reference to Finland as a partner will present its crisis management concept.

The Ministry's consular and travel advisory services will also be showcased at the stand.

Secretary of State Teija Tiilikainen will answer questions at the Public Forum of the Diamond section in the A Hall on Friday, 26 September, at 11.45-12.15, and Secretary of State Pertti Torstila at 14.15-14.45.

Head of Consular Services Pasi Tuominen delivers safety tips for travellers daily in the C Hall: at 15.00-15.20 on Friday, at 11.30-11.50 and 15.00-15.20 on Saturday and at 11.30-11.50 and 15.00-15.50 on Sunday.
