On Thursday 29 March, the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the grounds of the Defence Forces Reform for the part of the situation of the Nyland Brigade. On the basis of the discussion, the meeting decided that work on the Defence Forces Reform to be carried out during the current Government's term of office will continue in line with the policy outline formulated by the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy on 8 February 2012.
The meeting also discussed the preparatory work on the Government Report on Security and Defence Policy. A working group will be appointed for the preparation of the report. The group will be chaired by State Secretary Olli-Pekka Heinonen of the Prime Minister's Office. The political guidance for the work will take place at joint meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy and the President of the Republic. The preparatory work on the report will continue in cooperation with the Parliamentary Contact Group.
