Finland to participate in NATO crisis management exercise

Finland, as a partner nation, will participate in the NATO Crisis Management Exercise, CMX08, on 16-22 April. The exercise is designed to practice crisis management procedures, including planning and consultations between NATO and its partner nations, as well as cooperation on a national level. The exercise will cover only the early stages of planning, and no real-life forces will be deployed.
The alliance organises a crisis management exercise annually. This time also partner nations are invited. The previous exercise which was open for partner nations took place in 2005. Finland participated at that time also.
In addition to all NATO allies, a number of partner nations will participate in the exercise: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Finland, Georgia, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Ukraine. The exercise will involve civilian and military staffs in national capitals and at NATO. The Finnish participation will include the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Mission of Finland to NATO in Brussels, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Command, the Ministry of the Interior, and other relevant authorities.
