The annual magazine Focus on the Economy and Technology 2010, a showcase for Finland’s strengths that reaches a global reader base, has a revamped look and all new content.
Published jointly by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Tekes, Sitra, Invest in Finland and Finnfacts, Focus magazine celebrates the innovation skills and diverse expertise of Finnish businesses and society alike.
“The topics in this year’s issue highlight the creativity and teamwork skills that characterise our high education as well as our many sectors of industry, research and culture,” says Editor-in-Chief Juha Parikka of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Focus has been given a complete makeover in terms of visual appearance. “The magazine’s bold and attractive new look only serves to bolster the image of Finland in the future,” comments Parikka as he describes the facelift.
Focus 2010 zeroes in on solutions provided by Finnish enterprises to pressing global concerns in areas such as health, housing and the environment. A feature on the animation and gaming industry in Finland opens up perspectives into international success in the cultural arena.
Other feature articles have Sitra President Mikko Kosonen and Managing Director of Tapiola Pension Satu Huber discussing the challenges and opportunities of Finland’s competitiveness, and Chairman of the Board of both Nokia and Shell Corporation Jorma Ollila and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari appraising the strengths of Finland’s country brand.
An interview with Sofi Oksanen, one of the nation’s most widely translated modern authors, takes a stirring look at some of Finland’s most cherished truths.
Now in its eighth edition, the 40-page magazine is currently available in English. The Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese and Japanese versions will soon follow in March 2010. The magazine is primarily distributed by Finland’s foreign embassies and has attracted considerable interest in all its target countries.
Focus magazine’s production, layout and project management is handled by the Custom Publishing unit of Sanoma Magazines Finland, a part of the Sanoma Group.
