Sirpa Paatero and Sanni Grahn-Laasonen appointed as ministers

On 26 October, the President of the Republic appointed MP Sirpa Paatero, Counsellor of Preventive Substance Abuse Work, as Member of Government and assigned her as Minister for International Development at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and responsible for matters under the mandate of the Prime Minister’s Office. The President also appointed MP Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Master of Social Sciences, as Member of Government and assigned her as Minister of the Environment.
On the same occasion, the President of the Republic released upon request Pekka Haavisto from his responsibilities as Member of Government and Minister for International Development and Ville Niinistö from his responsibilities as Member of Government and Minister of the Environment.
The President also adopted changes to the responsibilities of Ministers Vapaavuori, Räsänen and Haglund.
It is plenary session on 26 September, the Government decided to transfer matters that fall under the Financial Markets Department in the Ministry of Finance to Minister of Finance Rinne. Matters related to sports in the Ministry of Education and Culture were transferred to Minister of Defence Haglund and matters related to customs in the Ministry of Finance to Minister Räsänen.
The Government also adopted a decision on the ministerial deputies and the composition of the cabinet committees. The swearing-in of Minister for International Development Paatero and Minister of the Environment Grahn-Laasonen took place during the government session.
