Nordic Day unites the Nordic countries
Press release 53/2016
21 March 2016
Nordic Day is celebrated on 23 March. Nordic Day, the main event during Finland’s Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2016, will be a whole-day Pop Up Pohjola event at the Kamppi Shopping Center. Organising Nordic Day at Kamppi brings the festivities near to commuting citizens. Regional events will be organised, too, for example in Vaasa.
Celebrating Nordic Day is a happy and sociable reminder of the Nordic identity and Nordic values as well as of the diversity of the modern Nordic way of life. The main emphasis is laid on Nordic culture, music and humour. The events at Kamppi will be hosted by Christoffer Strandberg, the imitator.
Minister for Nordic Cooperation Anne Berner will attend the festivities at Kamppi and be interviewed by Mary Gestrin, Head of Communications of the Nordic Council of Ministers, between 15.30 and 16.00.

Nordic Day is celebrated in the Nordic countries and in Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland in honour of the basic agreement on Nordic cooperation, the Helsinki Treaty, which was signed on 23 March 1962. The Treaty defines the tasks and composition of the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers as well as the methods of the practical cooperation.
