NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to make a farewell visit to Finland

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Secretary General of NATO, will visit Finland on Monday, 4 May. During his visit he will meet with President of the Republic Tarja Halonen, Minister of Defence Jyri Häkämies and Member of Parliament Pertti Salolainen, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament.

The topics on the agenda are development of NATO, cooperation between Finland and NATO including Finland’s participation in NATO crisis management missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and cooperation between the European Union and NATO. De Hoop Scheffer’s term as Secretary General of NATO comes to an end on 31 August. Anders Fogh Rasmussen of Denmark has been elected to succeed him.
