24 July, 2007
Paavo Väyrynen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, is likely to be released from hospital at the end of the week, when the duration of his sick leave will be known. Deputies to take over the minister’s duties have been agreed until 13 August, which is when Minister Väyrynen’s holiday was scheduled to end.
Paavo Väyrynen is receiving treatment at Meilahti Hospital. Minister Väyrynen fell ill suddenly last Sunday and was unable to attend the meeting of EU Trade Ministers held in Brussels on Sunday and Monday. Examinations performed on Monday revealed a coronary thrombosis, which was removed by balloon angioplasty.
