Press release 315/2009
7 December 2009

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen, together with a buisness delegation, will visit Poland on 8–9 December. The purpose of the export promotion trip is to expand Finnish businesses’ export possibilities on continually growing Polish markets.

The business delegation is made up of representatives from more than 30 Finnish companies. By sector the companies are concentrated especially in information and communications technology, the mechanical engineering industry, infrastructure and the energy sector. The delegation also includes representatives from the fields of education and the media.

The host of Minister Väyrynen’s trip in Poland is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Waldemar Pawlak. Alongside the meeting, the Ministers will take part in the Finnish-Polish business seminar to be held in Warsaw on 8 December. During his visit, Väyrynen will meet, among others, with the Polish Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk, Minister of Education Katarzyna Hall and Under-Secretary of State Jacek Najder, with whom the intention is to discuss, for instance, development policy.

Trade between Finland and Poland showed strong growth once Poland acceeded to the European Union in 2004. Economic growth in Poland has continued despite the economic slump elsewhere, and domestic demand has remained high. The EU has allocated 67 billion euros in regional and structural support to Poland for the period 2007–13; these funds are being used to carry out extensive investments in infrastructure in the fields of, for example, transport, the environment, information technology and education.

Minister Väyrynen will also attend the Finnish Independence Day reception being held in Warsaw on 7 December.
