Press release 308/2008
1 September, 2008
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen will participate in High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Accra, Ghana, on 2—4 September. The Forum is expected to bring together more than 800 participants, including more than 100 ministers from donor and recipient countries, international agencies and development banks, and civil society organisations.
The Accra Forum will examine how to achieve improved and more sustainable results by means of development aid. The participants have made a commitment to improve the aid effectiveness through the 2005 Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Furthermore, the discussions will also address the questions of the impact of new challenges, such as climate change and food crisis, on development aid, and the possibilities of reforming the aid systems of governments.
During the meeting, Minister Väyrynen will meet, for instance, Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, and Justin Kilcullen, President of CONCORD, European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development.
