Minister Väyrynen and Trade Commissioner De Gucht to meet in Helsinki

European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht will visit Finland on 25 February 2011 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen.
The topics for discussion by Minister Väyrynen and Commissioner De Gucht are current trade policy issues such as the new European Union trade strategy. Also to be discussed is the situation of the WTO’s Doha round of negotiations, where effort is being made to bring the negotiations that have lasted for nearly a decade to conclusion by summer.
Minister Väyrynen and Commissioner De Gucht will also discuss the ongoing EU free trade negotiations, the intention being to complete them during this year. In addition, the agenda includes development of the European Union’s new investment policy in accordance with the Lisbon Treaty.
During his visit, Trade Commissioner De Gucht will also meet with Prime Minister Mari Kiviniemi and representatives of industry and commerce.
