Minister Elisabeth Rehn to attend the UN Event on Women, Peace and Security

Minister Elisabeth Rehn will represent Finland at the “Commitments to Action” event aiming to promote implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution (SCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security during the opening week of the 65th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York. Minister Rehn will deliver a speech at the event.
The event will showcase good practices associated with Resolution 1325, concrete commitments to improve the position of women in areas of conflict and to take account of gender considerations in various segments of crisis management and peacemaking.
Finland emphasizes, among other things, the role of civil society, the struggle against impunity and consideration for victims, particularly in the context of sexuality and sexual violence. Moreover, Finland hopes that as many Member States as possible will compile a national action plan.
Minister Rehn is internationally renowned for her active input towards peace and furthering the position of women. She was recently selected Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Criminal Court’s Trust Fund for Victims .
