Humanitarian situation in Libya

On Wednesday, 23 March, the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the situation in Libya and the measures taken by the international community. The meeting expressed its deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Libya. In the planning of EU-level measures, emphasis has been placed on providing support to humanitarian action and protection for refugees. The EU has implemented the UN Security Council resolutions on sanctions and extended their scope. The European Council will also discuss the Libyan situation in its meeting on 24-25 March.

Finland will continue to follow the situation and prepare for possible further action to alleviate the crisis. Until now, Finland has donated EUR 1.35 million in humanitarian aid to ease the Libyan crisis.
