Invitation: Effectiveness of Finland's bilateral country strategy modalities

Press release 121/2016
16.6.2016

The country strategy modality guiding Finland's bilateral development cooperation has been evaluated. The evaluation started with a review of the success of country strategies implemented in Ethiopia, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Vietnam and Nepal. Based on these reviews, conclusions and recommendations were made on Finland's bilateral country strategy modality as a whole.

According to the evaluation, the country strategy modality as a basis for planning development cooperation is a good step forward in effective development cooperation. It has helped the Ministry for Foreign Affairs especially in the monitoring of development cooperation. However, applying the country strategy modality mainly to development cooperation activities between governments is a narrow approach. The modality should cover not only bilateral cooperation but also other development policy instruments, especially in countries in which development cooperation will be replaced by commercial and economic cooperation.

Welcome to hear the results of the evaluation on Tuesday 21 June at 13.00–17.00 at the House of the Estates, Snellmaninkatu 9–11, room 15. The evaluation group will tell about the results of the evaluation. Representatives of the departments responsible for development policy and development cooperation at the Foreign Ministry will comment on the discussion. The language of the event will be English.
