Kimmo Kiljunen appointed to the Foreign Minister’s Special Representative to regional peace-mediation tasks

Kimmo Kiljunen, Ph.D. (Pol.Sc.), docent, was appointed to the Foreign Minister’s new Special Representative to regional peace-mediation tasks. Kiljunen’s activities will, for their part, enhance Finnish contribution to international peace-mediation and prevention of crises, which are mentioned in the Government Programme as well. Kiljunen will begin in his task by outlining the situation in various geographic areas as well as potential activities of international organisations and other actors in these areas.
Kiljunen has a long international experience especially in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He has also worked in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs before. In 2008, when the Finnish Foreign Minister acted as Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Kiljunen acted as Special Envoy for the Chairman-in-Office.
MP Pekka Haavisto will continue as the Foreign Minister’s Special Representative to African crisis areas.
