Press release 235/2007
6 November 2007
André Laperrière, Executive Director of the International Criminal Court’s Trust Fund for Victims, will visit Finland on 7 November. During the visit, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is arranging an event where Laperrière will talk with representatives of various ministries and citizens’ organisations on the work of, and Finland’s support to, the Trust Fund for Victims.
The Rome Statute, which entered into force on 1 July 2002, created the International Criminal Court and pays particular attention to the position of victims. The Statute contains regulations concerning victims’ participation in trials and their right to retribution. Established by virtue of the Rome Statute and the Final Declaration of the Assembly of States Parties, the Trust Fund for Victims handles restitution for victims from voluntary aid granted by states, among others. Finland is one of the Fund’s most significant supporters.
