Eight Foreign Ministers to Lapland

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will host several European colleagues at an informal meeting in Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland on 12–14 March.
The seminar in Lapland, organised at the invitation of Foreign Minister Stubb, will be attended by Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and by the Foreign Ministers of Estonia, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. On the basis of Ashton’s presentation, the ministers will hold discussions during the weekend on strengthening the role of the European Union in world politics. The second main topic of the meeting is the EU neighbourhood policy. The participants and their accompanying family members will also have the opportunity to experience the nature of Lapland and spring in Saariselkä.
This is the first visit to Finland by the new High Representative Catherine Ashton.
