Juha Markkanen appointed Director of the Information Unit

Counsellor Juha Markkanen, LL.M., has been appointed Director of the Information Unit at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as of 1 June. Markkanen has been responsible for communication on commercial policy at the Ministry for the past three years and has also been editor in chief of the trade policy magazine Kauppapolitiikka. He began work at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1991 and has worked in the Department for External Economic Relations and the Development Cooperation Department as well as in the Government Secretariat for EU Affairs. He has served at diplomatic missions abroad, at the embassies of Finland in Bonn and Tokyo. Before he came to work at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Markkanen worked as a lawyer at a bank. As Director of the Information Unit he follows Erja Tikka, Counsellor for Foreign Affairs, who in spring took up the post of Deputy Director General at the Department for Communication and Culture.
