Vapaavuori to take responsibility for matters covered by the Secretariat for Nordic Cooperation

Minister Jan Vapaavuori On Thursday, 7 June, the Government confirmed the division of duties among the Members of Government in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The matters covered by the Secretariat for Nordic Cooperation will be transferred from Minister for Foreign Affairs Ilkka Kanerva to Minister Vapaavuori.

On Friday, 1 June, the President of the Republic appointed Mr Jan Vapaavuori Minister at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The division of duties in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs:

Each minister handles international matters that fall within his/her own ministry's field of competence and matters related to appointments and personnel administration. Each minister also directs financial planning and the preparation of budgets and other joint matters in his/her respective field.

Otherwise the division of duties in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is as follows:

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Väyrynen handles matters related to trade policy, development cooperation and cooperation in the neighbouring regions.

Minister Vapaavuori handles matters covered by the Secretariat for Nordic Cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanerva handles all other matters covered by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
