Ambassador for Human Rights and Democracy appointed to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Counsellor of Foreign Affairs Kari Kahiluoto has taken up the post of Ambassador for Human Rights and Democracy in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as from 1 September. His job is to implement human rights policy outlines and to participate in the development of human rights policy. His tasks include analysis of the human rights situation with regard to countries important for human rights promotion, and the drafting of proposals on how Finland and the EU, in particular, can best influence improvement of the human rights situation, for instance, by means of capacity reinforcement.
The work of the Ambassador for Human Rights and Democracy involves the integration of human rights into other foreign policy efforts.
The work also includes participation in global processes within the promotion of democracy, and influencing these processes.
