EU Heads of State or Government to meet President of the United States in Prague

EU Heads of State or Government and the new President of the United States, Barack Obama, will meet in Prague on Sunday, 5 April, for an informal summit organised by the Czech EU Presidency. The EU Foreign Ministers and the US Foreign Minister, Hillary Clinton, will hold a separate meeting over lunch in the context of the summit. President of the Republic Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will represent Finland at the meeting.

The meeting aims to establish a firm foundation for cooperation between the EU and the United States and to further strengthen the Transatlantic Partnership. The meeting will focus on the world economic and financial crisis, climate change and energy security along with external relations, especially Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. The Foreign Ministers will discuss Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and the Middle East over working lunch.
