Alpo Rusi to continue in the Cabinet staff of the President of the UN General Assembly

Ambassador Alpo Rusi has been appointed to continue as a member of the Cabinet staff of the President of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly with the title of Ambassador until September 2009. Rusi’s current term in the UN will come to an end at the end of August 2008.

Rusi will be responsible for matters related to, for instance, the UN reforms and security issues and well as the EU-UN relations. Rusi was asked to take the position at an earlier occasion by Nicaragua. Former Foreign Minister of Nicaragua Miguel Déscoto Brookman was elected the President of the forthcoming 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in a General Assembly meeting on 4 June.
