Foreign Minister Stubb and high-profile guests discuss the role of media in times of crises at SuomiAreena

The role of media in conflict will be discussed at the Foreign Ministry's SuomiAreena event in Pori. Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will lead a panel discussion titled: ”The Role of Media in Conflict and Tension”. President Martti Ahtisaari and Wadah Khanfar, Director General of the Al-Jazeera Network together with Janne Virkkunen, Chairman of the International Press Institute, will discuss the role of media in war and peace.

The discussion will be held at the Pori Promenadi Centre on Thursday, 22 July at 10:30-11:45 a.m. A webcast of the event will be available at the Foreign Ministry and MTV3 websites. The event will be in English and admission is free.

The Foreign Ministry Development Communications and Europe Information will join the SuomiAreena citizens market on 21-23 July. In accordance with the current theme of Development Communications, Development through work (Työllä kehitystä), the desk will provide information on global development issues and Finnish development policy. At the Europe Information desk, Members of the EU Parliament will be available for discussing the European Union and Finland as a member state of the EU.

The Foreign Ministry Development Communications and Europe Information desks are located at the marketplace end of the pedestrian street. The citizens market is open 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
