Ahtisaari Day receives its own logo

Press release 251/2011
4 October 2011

Ahtisaari Day, which will be celebrated for the first time this year, has received its own official logo. The logo combines two different images: a dove in flight, commonly known as a symbol of peace, and a handshake. The motivation underpinning the logo was the wish to highlight the two themes of Ahtisaari Day in a suitable way. The dove in flight symbolises peace and the handshake refers to the reconciliation process.

In its typography and imagery, the classical, simple logo strives to create a light yet recognisable, clear and timeless emblem. The emblem now published will be the official logo of the annual Ahtisaari Day event.

Ahtisaari Day is intended to raise awareness of peace mediation work by placing particular emphasis on the importance of education, information and communication. The idea for celebrating Ahtisaari Day was presented by the country brand working group, which set this mission for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The Ministry participated in the 10th anniversary seminar of Ahtisaari’s organisation, the Crisis Management Initiative, held in spring 2011 and, together with the Ministry of Education and Culture and The Finnish National Board of Education, supports the celebration of Ahtisaari Day in schools on 16 November. This year, Oulu is the site for the day’s main event.
