Foreign Minister Haavisto to attend the Paris Peace Forum

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will participate in the second Paris Peace Forum, which will be held in Paris on 12 November.

The Paris Peace Forum was created on the initiative of President Emmanuel Macron on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War in 2018. It is part of Macron's goal to lay an emphasis on the significance of multilateral action in solving global challenges. The Peace Forum will be attended not only by Heads of State or Government but also by representatives of international organisations and civil society.

The Alliance for Multilateralism, which supports multilateral cooperation, will gather for a meeting of their own in connection with the Peace Forum. Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will speak at the event about the relationship between freedom of expression and disinformation, focusing on the perspective of democratic states.

“We need a diverse free media to be able to respond to the challenges of disinformation. The vulnerability of democracies is also prevented through social cohesion, trust in institutions, a high level of education, and citizens' media literacy,” says Pekka Haavisto.
