The imprisonment of the convicts in Finland is part of the cooperation between Finland and the ICTY. Finland values highly the tribunal´s work in convicting war criminals in the Former Yugoslavia. The tasks of the ICTY are challenging and an integral part of the activities of the international community in order to bring people responsible for serious crimes to account for their actions in a court of law.

In addition to Finland, the ICTY has signed treaties on similar cooperation with Italy, Norway, Sweden and Austria. Treaties with France and Spain are scheduled to come into force in a few months´ time.
